Keeping your dog or cat off the couch or sofa can be difficult to say the least! With our dog it was a never ending battle until we found the Sofa Scram!
When dogs and cats climb on the sofa (or any furniture for that matter) the can and do cause damage! Between nails and claws pulling on fabric to good old "doggy drool" they can quickly ruin you homes furnishings.
As a professional cleaner with over 20 years experience I cannot tell you the amount of times I have been called in to clean up a mess made by a pet on a piece of upholstered furniture. From a cat that peed on an expensive leather sofa (in between the cushions no less!) - to dogs that have thrown up on the family room sofa. I know we all love our pets and if are of the mindset that Fluffy can hang on the couch - good for you. I personally can't afford to be replacing my furniture that often! Not to mention that it is unsanitary as well.

We had a heck of a time keeping Riley off the couch. He was becoming a "couch bandit"! Not only was he up there at night bey even during the day he was sneaking up when we weren't looking. And he knew he wasn't supposed to be up there! We were covering the couch every night with everything we had! We have a large sectional so it takes quite a bit of stuff to cover it. From TV trays to laundry baskets and even the vacuum (Riley is deathly afraid if the vacuum). It all worked but made the house look messy. There was also lots of effort involved on the process.
We finally purchased the Sofa Scram - than goodness we did! Now it only takes a few seconds to set it up. Just unfold and turn it on. Two mats cover the entire sectional. The Sofa Scram takes a 9 volt battery so it is cheap to operate. It also folds up nicely so it can easily be stored. We keep ours on a small shelf under the coffee table - they also could be slid under the couch.
We liked the fact that the Sofas Scram did not use a painful shock (our next step if this didn't work). A simple loud beep is all it takes. As soon as the pet touches the mat it beeps loudly - startling them and scaring them off the furniture.
I am happy to say that the first night we put it on the couch I heard a beep at about 1 AM and ever since then Riley has not even attempted to go on the couch when they were used. I will say that if we leave them off he will still get up there. i think that maybe with a little more work he will avoid the couch all together!
